The Dynamics of China's Diplomatic Relations in the Middle East and Its Impact on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

On Sunday, August 25, 2024, the Rudaw Research Center hosted a closed seminar featuring Liu Jun, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in the Kurdistan Region.

The seminar focused on China's foreign policy in the Middle East and its implications for the domestic policies, security, and economy of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Discussions also covered China's ambition to play a more prominent role in global and regional politics.

Held under the auspices of Chatham House, the seminar explored China's efforts to mediate between various parties in the Middle East, including its role in the Iran-Saudi agreement and its initiative to bring together 14 different Palestinian factions in Beijing.

Another key topic was China's involvement in resolving issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, China's perspective on the Kurdish issue, and its approach to development and relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
